Casino Tournaments
A tournament is a very good way to improve your skills in any game,
including casino games, though some casino games lend themselves
better for the tournament format than others. Casino games with
a relatively large skill component to them, generally result in
more interesting tournaments.
The best example of a casino game that requires a lot of skill
is Poker, and it's therefore no surprise that a major attraction
of poker is the large variety of tournaments you can play, both
real and online. The most famous real poker tournament is the World
Series of Poker. Both the 2003 and 2004 main event were won by players
who developed their skills in online poker tournaments. The 2003
winner was Chris Moneymaker, who won a first prize of $2.5M, and
in 2004 Greg Raymer took the first prize of $5M.
Both players earned their entry into the World Series of Poker
by playing a $40 online poker tournament at PokerStars. Normally
though you have to buy yourself into a casino tournament. With the
World Series of Poker, the buy in can vary from $1,500 to as much
as $10,000.
Another casino game that does well in a tournament setting is Blackjack,
a game that like Poker, requires some skill to be successful at
it. An excellent introduction to Blackjack tournaments is found
on Ken Smith's Blackjack
site, who has been playing in, and writing about Blackjack tournaments
since 1994.
Below we've listed a few casino tournaments that are offered by
various online casinos. We do not list poker tournaments currently,
but might do so in the future.
