Resignation of OPA Committee

On Thursday, January 02, 2003 the volunteers of the OPA committee and the player's advisory board have unanimously decided to resign with immediate effect, because of a conflict of interest between them and Mike Craig. The volunteers, including amongst others Bryan Bailey (CasinoMeister), Brian Cullingworth (JetSet), Maryanne Snyder (OPAMary) and Tortex, felt that a couple of unilateral actions by Mike Craig jeopardized the independent not-for-profit foundations of the Association. The description of the OPA that follows reflects the OPA as it was *before* the resignation of the OPA committee.

OPA introduction

The Online Players Association (OPA), founded in 2000, is a player initiated association consisting of both players and (approved) casinos. Its goal is to provide its members with a safe and enjoyable online gambling experience. The OPA has been voted 'Watchdog Of The Year' for 2001 by readers of Gambling Online Magazine. Players can join the OPA for free, but must accept the Players Code of Ethics. The Players Code of Ethics includes, amongst others, the rules not to open multiple accounts at a casino, only to use your own registered credit cards, and to refrain from spamming a casino.

The OPA offers the following benefits to players:

Casino Code of Ethics

Each OPA approved casino guarantees to abide with the OPA Casino Code of Ethics. As such, each OPA approved casino guarantees:

To maintain a gaming license in an authorized gaming jurisdiction.
Customer privacy and confidentiality.
Truth in advertising.
It keeps and makes available detailed transaction and wagering logs for dispute resolution.
It provides rapid response to customer support queries.
It publishes clear and unambiguous terms and condition for deposits, withdrawals and promotional offers.

Dispute resolution

You can file a dispute using the OPA dispute facility against any casino you are having problems with, whether they are OPA approved or not, but provided they are not listed on the Not Recommended Casino List. The OPA recommends only to play at those casinos that have been OPA approved. The progress of the more serious disputes can be tracked in the OPA dispute section.

OPA approval logo

Each OPA approved casino is entitled to carry the OPA approval logo. A casino can get OPA approval by passing a formal approval process performed by the OPA advisory board, consisting of 60 OPA members worldwide. The decision whether a casino is approved is made by the OPA executive committee based on the findings of the OPA advisory board. The OPA approval logo is shown below:

Public list of OPA approved casinos

The OPA approval logo discussed in the previous section indicates the casino that carries the logo is committed to the OPA Code of Ethics. To verify that the casino carrying the OPA approval logo is actually entitled to it, you can check if the casino is listed on the public list of OPA approved casinos as published on the OPA website.

Public list of OPA not recommended casinos

You are strongly advised not to play at casinos that are not recommended by the OPA, as these casinos have consistently cheated on their players, for example by using rigged software or by not paying out winnings. Check if a casino is listed on the public list of OPA not recommended casinos before playing.

OPA Newsletter

As an OPA member you will receive the regular OPA newsletter "The Fair Deal" alerting you to special offers or problems.
