Winnings are "the casino's money"
Many gamblers that are ahead justify large, crazy bets because
they feel it's the casino's money. Well it's not. You could
cash out if you wished, and any money you win is in fact yours.
While this may seem obvious now, remember this the next time
you're ahead, and treat any bet as if you make it with your
own money.
Chasing losses
Some people think they are destined to win, and that losing
is for suckers. We're sorry to disappoint you, but in a game
of chance, everybody has the same chance of winning or losing.
So if you're losing, you can't expect that you will win back
your losses by just gambling longer. At some point take your
losses and come back at a later time. |

Illusion of control
Everybody is superstitious to some extent. But don't think the
color of your underwear or "lucky" dices will have
any effect whatsoever on the outcome of your play. You can't
control the outcome in a game of chance. Seeing
patterns
We see patterns all the time, and it's a very useful ability
in everyday life. However, in gambling it's not. There are no
patterns in gambling, just random events of chance. If you get
six reds when playing roulette, the next spin will *not* more
likely result in a black. The chances of either red or black,
after six consecutive reds, are still the same. |
