Tens or Better video poker is almost the same game as Jacks
or Better. The only difference is that the lowest hand in the payout
table is a pair of Jacks in Jacks or Better, and a pair of Tens in
Tens or Better video poker. So you have more chance of receiving a
hand that pays out in Tens or Better. This doesn't necessarily mean
Tens or Better is a 'better' game than Jacks or Better in terms of
average expected returns, because the payouts for a Full House have
been decreased slightly. In fact the Tens or Better variant discussed
here is a 'better' game than short pay Jacks or Better, but a 'worse'
game than full pay Jacks or Better. It all depends on the payout tables
used.
Below you will find an example of an Tens or Better video poker
payout table as well as an example of Tens or Better video poker
hand rankings.
Tens or Better video poker payout table
The payout table example we present here is used at Aztec Riches casino
(read our Aztec
Riches casino review). A couple of other Microgaming
casinos we reviewed didn't offer Tens or Better video poker as
discussed here, but a slightly different variant called Tens or Better
Power video poker, where you can play more than one hand simultaneously.
When you compare this payout table to a Jacks or Better short pay
table, you will find that a Full House pays less (30 instead of 40
with 5 coins wagered), but this is compensated by including a pair
of Tens in the payout table. We cannot emphasize enough that it is
beneficial to you to always bet five coins, because the Royal Flush
payouts are negatively skewed when you bet less than five coins.
